Thank you for visiting the Archives.

Registering as a Visitor to the Hall of Records and Archives Websites

The Archives may require visitors to our facilities and our websites to provide personal information as part of our registration procedure. This information is collected as part of our efforts to protect and safeguard the records, special collections and artistic treasures entrusted to our care. This information is not made available commercially but may be provided to other third parties under certain circumstances. Examples include to law enforcement officers investigating a complaint or under court order. Information may also be used internally by the agency to promote archival programs or to notify our users of such things as upgrades to our systems or routine scheduled maintenance or unscheduled closures.

Browsing Archives' Websites

When you browse Archives websites, read pages, or download information, certain information about your visit is automatically gathered and stored. This information may include the following:
  • The internet domain (example: aol.com) and the IP address (the number automatically assigned to your computer when surfing the Web) from which you access our site;
  • The type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
  • The date and time you access our site;
  • The pages you visit;
  • The address from which you linked to our website.

This information is used to make these websites more useful to visitors, to learn about the number of visitors to our site, and the types of technology our visitors use. Websites managed by the Archives may use "temporary cookies" or other session variables or tools to track user navigation in order to make the web experience more useful. Navigation information may also be used to determine if a user is violating the Archives Acceptable Use Policy.

E-Mail

If you send us e-mail, we use the information you send us to respond to your inquiry, just as we do with written correspondence. E-mail correspondence, like mailed correspondence, is a public record. As a public record, your correspondence could be disclosed to other parties upon their request, in accordance with Maryland's public records law.
